1.2.1.1 Shipyard - Building - On deck - Windows

Windows (update: 18 November 2006)

There are two types of windows on R14 Joohee, hatches and portlights is one and cut to size mineral glass windows is the second.

1. Mineral glass windows were supplied by Seaglaze Ltd. The choice of supplier in this case was straightforward, if they are good enough for Oyster and UK Lifeboats, they are good for R14 Joohee. The windows are specified to ISO 12216:2002 which for tempered glass in area III should sustain pressure to 18kPa. This after some calculation and table comparison results of a minimum glass thickness between 6.1mm to 7.1mm (size dependent). All mineral glasses on Joohee R14 (front and sides) are made of 10mm grey toughened glass. This, again using tables in ISO 12216:2002, can also translate to: a/in case of the front windows the thickness is approaching requirements for area I (11.2mm would be required for area I for the size of R14 Joohee front windows); and in the case of b/ side windows, these are specified well above the area II requirements (8.3-8.7mm required for area II, again size dependent).

2. Hatches and portlights were supplied by French company Goiot. After some comparison study (price did not play any role in this case, all main-stream manufactures are about the same in this respect) we opted for Goiot for its apparent (and hopefully real) robustness of the hatches - most of the frames are cast aluminium and they nicely match with the general design of R14 Joohee. List of hatches and portlighs which will fit on R14 Joohee:

Cristal Hatch #20 35.21 2off
Cristal Hatch #50 49.36 4off
Cristal Hatch #60 49.49 3off
Evolution portlights 33.10P 10off
