Fig. 1.2.9 e, f, g In comparison to original Nester the boat is superior to plywood; we tested the alustar version on white water with frequent rapids where we literally stopped several times on several occasions on stones hidden under water with three people onboard. Results: only several minor scratches at the bottom, no dents whatsoever.
The lightened 5754 version served as a test for painting scheme for Joohee R14, two coats of epoxy and one coat of polyurethane (‘International’), as a restult it looks excellent - the downside is that the paint will not take any of the abuse dinghies are used to face, particularly at the bottom. However, the non-slip bottom (inside) surface made of mixing the epoxy with crushed walnut shells is an brilliant stuff designed to last and is going to be reproduced on R14.
