In comparison to original Nester the boat is superior to plywood; we tested
the alustar version on white water with frequent rapids where we literally
stopped several times on several occasions on stones hidden under water
with three people onboard. Results: only several minor scratches at the
bottom, no dents whatsoever.
The lightened 5754 version served as a test for painting scheme for Joohee
R14, two coats of epoxy and one coat of polyurethane (‘International’),
as a restult it looks excellent - the downside is that the paint will
not take any of the abuse dinghies are used to face, particularly at the
bottom. However, the non-slip bottom (inside) surface made of mixing the
epoxy with crushed walnut shells is an brilliant stuff designed to last
and is going to be reproduced on R14.
