just a quick run away from the main project (a winter time project)... Nestor
is fully sea-water compliant, 3.3m (11ft) long, 1.4m (4ft 7in) wide nesting
dinghy (1.47m (5ft10in) when nested) inspired and copied from Dave
Gerr's book, The Nature of Boats. The original Nester was designed in
1/4" plywood with glass/epoxy coating and is said to be about 60kg.
We made two aluminium versions; first trial used 3mm thick left over Alustar
plates. Second, lightened version, was build mostly with 2.5mm 5754
alloy (see next). Due to the structural strength of aluminium we could reduce
internal framings which allowed to built alu-Nestor at gross weight of ~52kg
(+8.5kg plywood seats+8kg floats). Fig. d
