Fig. 1.4 a, b, c, d About five 15kg propan/butan bottles were enough to melt all the necessary lead into the keel, on average cca 25kg of lead per 20min (a batch). The gas burner is from an old water boiler heater and gives about 15-20kW output power (a), first layer filled with lead blocks and molten lead. Its good to overheat the lead a little to allow it to run freely to every crevice, it is not so good to pour more then 1cm in one go, and its entirely bad to pour directly on aluminium plate (b). Last third layer of what is 70cm high lead block (c) and final level (d) - its within millimeters to design point!. All 4,100kg took about 150 hours of work.
